What is the difference between District and Invitational teams?
District All-Star teams compete in the District 5 tournament in mid-to-late June. This tournament is typically a double-elimination format. By winning districts, the teams can advance to the state tournament. If a team wins the state tournament, they may also move on to regional play. For teams in the Majors division and above, winning the regional tournament will qualify them for the World Series. On the other hand, Invitational teams play only 1 local tournament. Usually these tournaments guarantee at least 4 games and last 5-8 days.
How much does it cost to play on an all-star team?
In 2022, the all-star player cost will be $75. This money helps offset some leagues expenses such as uniforms, equipment, tournament fees, and possible travel reimbursement.
How are all-star coaches selected?
All-star managers must be a regular season manager or assistant coach. An application is submitted by the first week of May and interviews are then held with all candidates. Coaches are then selected by a committee consisting of the VP of Baseball or Softball, the Division Director and another board member.
When do managers find out they are selected?
Managers are not informed of their selection until the initial round of player voting is completed.
How are teams chosen?
The Atlee Little League Local Ground Rules outline the specific details. In general, all regular season managers discuss the eligible players. Each coach votes for who they think belongs on the team. The votes are tallied and the top 10 or 11 vote getters are automatically placed on the team. The all-star manager is then announced and they get to choose the final 2 members from a group of players that received the most votes outside the top 10 or 11.
What are the typical practice schedules?
All-star and invitational team practices are up to the manager. The district all-star teams typically start practices the last week of May and practice for 2-3 weeks before district play begins. Typically coaches will have 4-6 evening practices per week leading up to the games. Invitational teams practice about 3 weeks prior to their tournament and typically have 4-5 evening practices per week.
What happens if we have conflicts with the practice or game schedule?
Atlee Little League’s policy is that no child can miss more than 3 scheduled practices and cannot miss a game unless ill or injured. Any player missing more than the minimum must have prior approval from the Atlee LL All-Star Executive Committee.
What documents do we need to provide the league?
After selection to a District 5 All-Star team, several documents will be required. An ORIGINAL birth certificate will be required. Also, either a School Enrollment Form or 3 proofs of residency will be required. There is a short turn-around time for these documents so prepare ahead of time.
