2024 All-Stars Rosters
New District 5 Team Selection Process
NOTE: The 9 YO invitational team will follow a similar selection process but the workout will be closer to the end of May.
We have altered our selection process for the 2024 All-Star teams. See below for a high-level outline of the process:
- Managers select kids to invite to the all-star workout on May 15th (families will receive an email a week prior if their child was selected for the workout).
- NOTE: It is not required to attend the all-star workout to make an all-star team but this gives the coaches another opportunity to assess the players’ abilities. It also allows kids that have played up or down a level in the regular season to be seen by the coaches voting for that specific all-star team.
- After the workout, managers from each division will vote on the all-star team based on what they observed during the regular season and at the workout.
- The top 6 (or more depending on ties) players receiving the most votes will be automatically placed on the roster.
- The All-Star manager will have up to 6 remaining picks to round out each roster to 12 players.
- Families will then be called to inform them of what team they were selected for and to get a commitment for All-Star participation
NOTE: Please be aware that being selected to an All-Star team is a commitment throughout the All-Star journey. For some teams, that may only be a few district games but if our teams are successful, that could mean trips to state and/or regional tournaments. Any and all pre-planned vacations will need to be discussed with the division director if your child is selected for an All-Star team and approved by the Board of Directors prior to confirming your child’s placement on the team. Please see the various schedules below.
New 6/7/8 Coach Pitch Tournaments for 2024
The Virginia State Little League and District 5 have approved new “district-level” tournaments for our 6/7/8 age group baseball and softball players. In the past, these ages were eligible for the Machine Pitch Invitational tournaments held at Huguenot LL and Mechanicsville LL at the end of July. The state is piloting a coach pitch tournament for this age level this year meaning these ages will now play in mid June with the rest of the District 5 tournaments. This year in 2024, the tournament will conclude at the Sectional level. That means the District 5 champion will have the opportunity to play a small two-day tournament the weekend of June 29th and 30th. The goal is that in 2025 we will have these age levels advance to a state tournament just like the older age divisions.
NOTE: This year, we will still have a MP BB Invitational team if there is enough interest. The MP SB Invitational will not be held this year as there will not be enough participation throughout the district.

Frequently Asked Questions
**Please see below for some quick answers to frequently asked questions. If you have questions not answered below, please reach out to your division director, VP of Baseball/Softball or President**
Are there any major rule changes for 2024?
No major differences from 2023.
What is the difference between District and Invitational teams?
District All-Star teams compete in the District 5 tournament in mid-to-late June. This tournament is typically a double-elimination format. By winning districts, the teams can advance to the state tournament. If a team wins the state tournament, they may also move on to regional play. For teams in the Majors division and above, winning the regional tournament will qualify them for the World Series. On the other hand, Invitational teams play only 1 local tournament. Usually these invitational tournaments guarantee at least 4 games and last 5-8 days and are held in mid-to-late July
How much does it cost to play on an all-star team?
In 2024, the all-star player cost will be $90. This money helps offset some leagues expenses such as uniforms, equipment, tournament fees, and possible travel reimbursement.
How are all-star coaches selected?
All-star managers must be a regular season manager or assistant coach. An application is submitted and interviews are then held with candidates. Coaches are then selected by a committee consisting of the VP of Baseball or Softball, the Division Director and another board member.
When do managers find out they are selected?
Managers will be informed if they are selected prior to the all-star workout.
How are teams chosen?
Managers in each division will nominate players to attend tryouts. Tryouts are planned to be held on May 15th. Roughly 20 kids per tournament team will be invited to tryout. At tryouts, the managers will be able to evaluate the players’ skills through drill work and/or live play. They will use this evaluation along with their observations from regular season games and vote for their top players. The 6 players receiving the most votes, will automatically be placed onto the team. Any player voted by all coaches unanimously will be placed on the team as well. The all-star manager will then be allowed to select the remaining players to round out the roster to 12 players.
What are the typical practice schedules?
All-star and invitational team practices are up to the manager. The district all-star teams typically start practices the last week of May and practice for 2-3 weeks before district play begins. Typically coaches will have 4-6 evening practices per week leading up to the games. Invitational teams practice about 3-4 weeks prior to their tournament and typically have 4-5 evening practices per week.
What happens if we have conflicts with the practice or game schedule?
Atlee Little League’s policy is that no child can miss more than 3 scheduled practices and cannot miss a game unless ill or injured. Any player missing more than the minimum must have prior approval from the Atlee LL All-Star Executive Committee.
What documents do we need to provide the league?
After selection to a District 5 All-Star team, several documents will be required. An ORIGINAL birth certificate will be required. Secondly, either a School Enrollment Form or 3 proofs of residency will be required. There is also a Medical Release form that needs to be filled out. There is a short turn-around time for these documents so prepare ahead of time.
